Border and Lakeland Holstein trade down a bit

Trade at yesterday’s Border and Lakeland Holstein Club sale at Carlisle saw trade ease a bit on the last few sales with a typically variable selection on offer, report the auctioneers.

That, however, didn’t stop trade hitting a peak of 2500gns for a fresh calved heifer from Mark Wilson and family, Appleby. This one, secured by Neil Sanderson, Lanercost, was Hailstone Bambam Peggy, a Braedale Bambam daughter.

Next best at 2250gns was a well bred heifer from Messrs Hutchinson and Reynolds. This one was Bowerbill Logrey Shottle Pollyanna. Her fourth dam is the world famous Golden Oaks Mark Prudence and she sold to Messrs Fidler, Southwaite.

And at 2150 was a second calver from Messrs Carter, Wigton. By Canyon Breeze and out of Gerrard Pro Jewel, this one, Gerrard Allen Jewel gave 8139 in her first lactation and sold to R D and L McKelvey, Lochmaben.

Two then sold at 2100gns, including the pre-sale champion Glenconner Just Ladybliss from A and C Watson. Calved four weeks this heifer sold to Neil Sanderson. The other at this money was Highbeck Jill from W A and M Mounsey. This Shottle daughter sold to I T Carlyle, Longtown.

Averages; 13 cows ÂŁ1824.58, 24 heifers ÂŁ1866.81, 11 maiden heifers ÂŁ880.09 (Harrison and Hetherington).
