Brazilians seek out UK Angus semen

An export order for 100,000 straws of Aberdeen-Angus semen, believed to be the largest ever single consignment shipped from the UK, has been secured by Devon-based UK Sire Services from Brazilian genetics company Araucaria.

The order represents about 10% of Brazil’s annual Aberdeen-Angus imports which currently total 1m doses a year, a figure which has risen by 374% in the last five years, explains Rob Wills of UK Sire Services. “The bulls selected have come from a number of breeders and have been selected for their high genetic merit, being in the top 1% for growth and calving ease but with an emphasis on moderate frame score.”

Semen selected has come from bulls bred in the Blackhaugh, Tofts, Melview, Nightingale, Rosemead, McClemens, Warrenho and Lockerley herds.
