Brecon Limousin sale tops 8,900gns

A record average of £3,449 was achieved at theBritish Limousin Cattle Society’s autumn show at sale at Brecon at the weekend.

Topping the sale at 8,900gns and setting arecord price for his owner was the pre-sale show’s junior and overall championKillerton Gerald, from Mr and Mrs P W and S M Greed, Exeter, Devon.

The Bowers Union son is out of the homebredKillerton Brenda, whose pedigree dates back to the noted Rivermead breeding.

Commenting on his champion pick earlier inthe day, judge, 22-year-old Richard Priestley, from the Brontemoor herd, inBrampton, Cumbria said there had been a strong entry of working bullsforward. 

He added: “The bull is very stylish, haspower, plenty of muscle and great mobility.”

Gerald was purchased by Richard Jones, whoruns the Montgomery pedigree herd at Llwynobin Farm, Montgomery, Powys.

Following at 6,800gns was Loosebeare Gigolo,from Messrs E W Quick and Son, Crediton, Devon. Sired by the Scordale Terry sonGronw Cheeky, he is out of Loosebeare Cherry. He was purchased by S J Morrisand Sons, from Craven Arms, Shropshire.

Following in a close third was a bull fromthe same home. Reserve Junior Champion Loosebeare Gary sold for 6,600gns to C Jones, from LlandridnodWells, Powys.

Sired by Haltcliffe Anzac and out ofLoosebeare Dandylion, Gary had the biggest beef value in the catalogue atLM+47.

Sellingat 5,100gns was the stylish March 2011 born Twemlows Gerry from W L and J AForrester, Whitchurch, Shropshire.  This bull, who stood second in hisclass to the Senior Champion, is by the Sympa son Twemlows Dynamite and is out of Twemlows Daisy.  The purchaser was the Belgate herd ofMr M J Williams, Leominster, Herefordshire.

Anotherbreeder from the South West of England, MR J H Neale and Son, Launceston, Cornwall, made 4,800gns when selling the Reserve SeniorChampion, Nealford Grandee.  March2011 born, Grandee is by the stock bull Ironstone Duncan and is out ofthe Creedy Rebel daughter Marydowne Ulrika.  He was purchased by K Evans,Llangwyryfon, Aberystwyth.  

AshledgeGeraint from Messrs A G Kirton and Sons, Bewdley,Worcs, made 4,000gns when selling to D T Lewis, Llandrindod Wells, Powys.  Sired bythe Ronick Hawk son Kendrom Acracker, this March 2011 born calf is out of theAshledge Smirnoff sired Ashledge Cascade.

 Averages:In total 30 of the 48 bulls forward sold to arecord average of £3,449, up by £248 last year. A clearance rate of 60% saw 30bulls grossed £103,470.
