Breeding cattle sell to £2,950 in South Wales


IMG_3832 william ass. webJPG.JPGThe production sale of breeding cattle on behalf of Huw and Rhian Leyshon on farm at Skewen, Nr Swansea on Saturday saw a blistering trade on one of the hottest days of the year so far.


On offer were 82 cows and calves, predominantly first calvers and some young cows which were almost entirely British Blue cross Friesian, and sold with both Autumn and Spring calves at foot.


The consistency and conformation of the Limousin cross calves were a feature of the sale, which was attended with potential buyers from across South Wales, West Country and the Midlands, reports auctioneers Williams Associates.


The stylish outfits peaked at £2,950 for a May 2009 born Limousin cross heifer and her October born Limousin cross bull calf selling to T Davies, Aberystwyth.


Spring born outfits peaked at £2,750 for a May 2009 British Blue heifer and her April born Limousin cross bull calf, selling to P R Dawes, Dinmoor, Hereford, who bought 25 Heifers with calves at foot.


Mature cows peaked at £2,800 for a British Blue cross (2006) and Spring Born bull calf selling to A E Jones, Swansea.


A small selection of In-calf cows sold to £1,680 for a British Blue due September with her second calf, selling to K Tanner, Gowerton.


25 in-calf Limousin and British Blue cross heifers due September onwards sold to £1,600 for a July 2010 born British Blue cross purchased by M T John, Merthyr Tydfil.


A smart consignment of bulling heifers sold to £1,600 (December 2010) for British Blue cross, all well grown heifers £1,000-£1,220.


A guest consignment of Charolais cross store cattle from H Harris, Birchgrove, saw steers peak at £1,090, whilst heifers fetched to £1,000.
