Breeding sheep on song at Bicester

The final prices from last Friday’s Bicester Sheep Fair at Thame in Oxfordshire are still to come from auctioneers Thame Farmers Mart but in general there was a strong trade throughout the day for the best sheep on offer – a trade that saw 7800 Mule shearlings average £140. Top price for Mule shearlings was £200.

Suffolk x theaves averaged £128 and although around £15 a head down on the 2011 trade the best quality sorts were only back £5.

Continental theaves were of mixed quality and averaged £123. The best reached £160. Store lambs were a flying trade with some buyers making at least £10 a head more than anticipated. Good stores were making just over £60 apiece.
