Brisk trade for suckled calves at Exmoor sale

Exmoor Farmers Livestock Auctions sale of ESCRA suckled calves, store cattle and cows and calves saw a large entry of 492 cattle going under the hammer at Cutcombe Market. This included the herd dispersal of the Yeo Barton Herd of Mr N  Faulks, Yeo Barton Farm.

The Pedigree herd was met with a large number of buyers and sold to a brisk trade across the board. This included a pedigree stock bull which sold for £780.

The store cattle and ESCRA Suckled Calves sold to a brisk trade with plenty of buyers surrounding the ring for the day. Heifers met an average of 180p/kg and the a peak of 247p/kg for a superb heifer from Messrs Riddle Park Farm Partnership, Loxhore.

Steers were sold to an average of 192p/kg with a top of £995 Being paid for an excellent group of cattle from Messrs ER Dascombe and Son, Fairgarden Farm. Within the sale the native breeds made up a large proportion reaching £588 for Aberdeen Angus from WHAH, Ex Hindon Farm. Hereford reached £500 for Messrs K C and J C Heard, Hughslade.

Kipscombe made £215 and Devon heifers from Messrs W Stevens and Sons, Higher House topped at £530. Steers were equally well represented in the native breed section with 56 Aberdeen Angus forward peaking for Messrs W J Burge and Son, Oaremead at £725. The same vendor also topped the Galloway section at £335 and Highland

Cattle at £250.
