British Blues top at 10,500gns at Borderway Mart

British Blue bulls met brisk trade at the society’s annual sale Borderway Mart, Carlisle, on Friday (23 January), topping at 10,500gns.

Sale leader was Littlederry Ivor, from Graham Morgan, Tillington, Herefordshire. This May 2013 born bull was bred by Simon Loughery and is sired by Ballygrange Dalton, a Springbank Blackstar son. His dam is Woodview Dessa, by Ballygrange Alex. He stood first place in the pre-sale show and sold to Messrs Beckwith, Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria.

Next best at 8,000gns and selling to Messrs Atkinson, Ulverston, Cumbria, was Moorsley Iggy, from P Brannen, Penrith, Cumbria. This June 2013 born French bred bull is sired by Raciste Du Pachis A La Motte and is out of the Springfield Patrice daughter Hurworth Burn Aster.

Two lots made 7,500gns. First of these was the male champion Solway Inferno, from Kevin Watret, Annan, Dumfriesshire. Sired by Solway View Dynamite this January 2013 born bull is out of the Gitan Du Pti’t Mayeur daughter Bridgemuir Dolly. He won the Nation Calf Show in 2014 and was also crowned junior male champion at the Royal Welsh Show last summer. He caught the eye of Anderson Smallburn, Elgin, Morayshire.

Overall Champion - Solway View Inferno - 7500gns

Second at this money was the first prize Pendle Impretza from AM and E Hartley, Nelson, Lancashire. Sired by Jalon De Martinpre he is out of the Greystone Bonzer daughter Pendle Ella. Buyer was W Dandie, Broxburn, West Lothian.

Females

The day also included the inaugural ‘Blue Ladies Classic’ sale of maiden heifers, which saw the female champion Trencrom Ima Star from Gail Ellis, St Ives, Cornwall, make 5,600gns.

Sired by the Empire D’Ochain son Boherard Cantona she is out of the herd’s top performing cow Trencrom Ex Factor. She headed home with S and S Hough, Pontefract, W Yorkshire.

Her stablemate Trencrom Irish Dancer made the second best bid of 4,500gns.  Sired by Tweedale Ebony she is out of Knockagh Elegant and was purchased by V and G Bowring, Nether Langwith, Mansfield.

Averages: 17 bulls, £5,503.24; 11 maiden heifers, £3,350.
