British Blues top Kirkby Stephen show and sale of store cattle

A competitive day of bidding saw prices reaching £1200 at Harrison and Hetherington’s annual February show and sale of store cattle at Kirkby Stephen.

 

Taking top price was the show champion, a British Blue heifer consigned by Messrs Owen, Ravenseat, selling to show judge James Crichton, Loughrigg.

Another British blue heifer and reserve champion took the next top price at £1050 for Messrs Ousby, Bents Farm,, and selling to Mr W Timms.

 

A pen of four Limousin bullocks raised £1035 for Messrs Marwood, Long Green, with a pen three British Blue heifers selling for £935 for Messrs S Mawson and Son, Moor House.  

 

Limousin crosses also saw a good trade topping at £1060 for Musgrave House with British Blues bullocks topping at £1045 for Hawkriggs.

 

35 cast cows were forward to a competitive ringside of buyers, which saw the top price of the day being £1644.93 for a pure bred Limousin cow consigned by Mr J Maughan, Ashgarth. Black and whites topped at £892.96 for a well fleshed sort from Crossfell House Farm, Kirby Thore. 

 

Averages Bullocks £738.99; heifers £682. Overall £709 Harrison and Hetherington
