Saturday’s sale of the Brodyr flock of Suffolks for Bleddyn and George Evans, Plas Llewelyn, Dolwen, at Beeston Castle, saw trade top at 2600gns for a shearling ewes by Plasllewelyn Phoenix out of a dam by 20,000gns sire Stockton Sledgehammer. This one sold to Mike Davies and Sons for their Safaddan flock, Llangorse, Brecon.

Next best call was a 1500gns bid for the top ewe lamb of the sale, this one being a ET bred lamb out by Sledgehammer and out of a Stockton ewe by Glenho Galyva. She sold to Messrs Irwin for the Kings flock, Devon. And a maternal sister to this one also sold well, making 1100gns to Jimmy Douglas, Cairness, Aberdeenshire. And Mr Douglas went to the same money to secure the top priced ewe of the sale, a one crop daughter of Plasllewelyn Pittsburgh which is out of a dam by 28,000gns sire Stockton Sentinel II. At the same value was a shearling ewe by Sir Percy and out of a Sledgehammer sired dam, she sold to Michael Waycott, Ashburton, Devon.

At 1050gns was a two crop Sentinel II daughter which sold to John Laing, the new owner of the Flodden flock. And another at this money was a Monkton Maximus daughter out of a Sentinal II ewe which sold to Viv Samuel, Hereford, for his Monkton flock. Mr Douglas was back in spending mood again to take the only other lot to break four figures when he bought another ewe lamb by Pittsburgh.

On the same day the market saw a sale of rams for the Midland and Eastern Area Branch of the Suffolk Sheep Society where trade topped at £580gns for a lamb from Steve Buckley’s Sitlow flock. His entry, by Didcot Dynamic sold to M E and D O Jones, Caerwys, North Wales. Second best was one from Merrick and Julie Penny, Northampton. This Baileys Kauto son sold to Sephanie Birch, Stafford at 500gns. And at 400gns was another from Mr Buckley, this time a Muiresk Adrenaline son which sold to S J Bargh of Lancaster.
