Bumper trade for Chelford calves
Last Monday at Chelford, Frank Marshall and Co conducted their annual Easter Prize Show and Sale of calves.
Auctioneer Roy Waller said “It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a pen full of so many good calves. The buyers bid furiously to try to secure the best. It’s always the same, its quality that sells”. The prices tell the story – 14 calves to average ÂŁ227.36.The Judge, Edward Hollingworth of Middleton, North Manchester, chose a 10 week old Belgian Blue Bull calf for his championship ticket from David Moss, Betchton, Nr. Sandbach, which later sold to Alan Addison from Burtonwood, Nr. Warrington for ÂŁ285.
David also sold the top price Blue Heifer at ÂŁ235, which stood 3rd in its class to Daniel Purtill of West Houghton, Nr. Bolton.
The 14 show calves, including 6 heifers, averaged ÂŁ227.36.
The market average was ÂŁ124.00 for the total entry of 251 calves,
155 bulls ÂŁ130.61 and 96 Heifers ÂŁ114.74.
