Carlisle Blue preview

I know it’s leaving it a bit late, but unfortunately thecatalogue for the British Blue sale in Carlisle (this weekend) only came in thepost today, so apologies, but here’s my pick.

As ever, it’s just my opinion, so feel free to add in any I’vemissed!

First up for sheer intrigue as to what he looks like now islot 2, Ballygrange Alex from Danny and Jane Wyllie. This bull needs nointroduction having won a host of championship tickets on last year’s circuit(unbeaten as a 3 and 4 year old) including Royal Show championships twiceon the trot. His influence in the breed is one that is easy to spot with hismention in many a pedigree in this catalogue. Alex is by Woodview Solo out ofBallygrange Roxy and has a carcase yield index of 11 and a breeding index of13.

Next up is lot 11, Rathylon Beaujolais, a November 2007-bornson of Empire D’Ochain out of the famous and very successful show cow BringleeSandy. Bred in Ireland, this one is forward by Andrew Ewing.

One that could be worth a look is lot 37, Cromwell Del Boyfrom Adam Neachall. This one is by the noted sire Dafydd D’Ochain out of theshow cow Tamhorn Up Town Girl who is out of Milly by Baron. And just followinghim at lot 38 is a maternal brother to Alex, Ballygrange Dudley from theSloans. By Twyning Ash Vaughan out of Ballygrange Roxy, Dudley has a carcase yieldof 12.

Lot 49 is one that catches my eye, the first of my pick fromGraham Brindley. Bringlee Dynamite is a Gitan son out of the Sandy daughter BringleeTandy (maternal sister to Bringlee Waldo, Blackstar, Volkawagon and the21,000gns Henli wishmaster. With good growth rates and a carcase yield of 15and a breeding index of 20, Dynamite also comes with a pretty good show historyhaving stood his ground well at the Welsh last year in a competitive juniorline up.

And if it’s a breeding index you’re after, Dragon Blues David(lot 50) from the Williams family has one of 22. By Dafydd, he is out of theHazelwood Freshman daughter and stood first on three occasions last summer.

The first of my pick from Redhead and Watson is the TamhornSumo son, Tweeddale Desperate Dan (lot 52). Out of Broomfield Penny, this onehas a carcase yield index of 19. I’ve admired Sumo sons in the past for lengthand locomotion, so it will be interesting to see what he’s like.

The next is another from the Bringlee string, Bringlee Derry(lot 76) for similar reasons to lot 49.

If it’s a pedigree jam packed full of champions you’re afterthen look no further than lot 88, Bedgebury Dizzy Rascal from relatively newbreeder Andrew Price. Rascal is by Wilodge Ulex, winner of championships at theRoyal and Royal Welsh and is full sister to last year’s Royal Show reserve championWilodge Cover Girl.

Next up (and not because he shares the same name) is Rhymil DizzeeRascal (lot 115). By Dafydd, this one has a strong dam line with Baron and TamhornRomany (sister to Tamhorn Uptown Girl). This one has a carcase yield index of13.

One of the picks from class 13 is Snowy Ridge Domino (lot124) from James and Gloria Annett. This one is by the Baron sire SpringbankSuperstar, whose mother is Bringlee Sandy. Then on the dam side you have one ofMichele Wilde’s great cows Ridge Dean Jessie.  Having been shown successfully on the NorthernIrish show circuit, I’d be interested to see how he’ll get on.

One of my picks from Andrew Craig’s offering is lot 131,Woodview Dixon. By Alex out of one of the herd’s best dam lines, this one has acarcase yield of 13. His dam, Witchy is a daughter of Trixie, a breeder of manysuccess stories at Woodview.

Then we have another from the Redhead and Watson team,Tweeddale Discovery (lot 136). With a whopping carcase weight of 26, a carcase yieldof 23 and a breeding index of 17, fans of performance figures will no doubtwant to take a look at this one. By Empire D’Ochain, he is out of the Viscontidaughter Tamhorn Ulay. This partnership obviously thinks highly of this bullhaving retained 1000 straws of semen for own use.

I mentioned her earlier and my best pick from Michele Wilde’steam is Ridge Dean Davie (lot 142), a Visconti daughter out of the great (andhuge) Ridge Dean Navette. This one has a carcase weight of 21 and a yield of19, coupled with a pedigree index of 16. Equally catching my eye for similarreasons is her next lot (143), this time a Dafydd son out of the Jessiedaughter Ridge Dean Ursula.

And again for reasons I’ve mentioned previously, GrahamBringlee’s lot 154 has caught my eye. Bringlee Doctor Doolittle is by Gamin des3 Frontieres, again out of the sandy daughter Tandy. His half brother Barainhas already proved his worth siring some good quality (and high priced)commercial show calves.

Auchenlay Envoy (lot 197) is another that’s made my listfrom the Paterson family. By Mountjoy Utopia, he is out of the Park Organiserdaughter Auchenlay White Magic. This one is full brother to the 13,500gnsAuchenlay Colt, while the dam is full sister to the 21,000gns AuchenlayVagabond.

The other two that could be worth a mention are two fromNeil and Sally Lloyd (213 and 214). Their first, Black N Blue Emperor is by Empire, while their second is by Label De Spy, both these bulls are out of their topshow cow Black N Blue

Well that’s it for me, although there are other breeders inthere that will no doubt have a fair line up such as Mel and Diane Lucas andthe Coates family, but I’ve already written far too much, so it’s over to youfor your comments now.
