Carlisle British Blue bull preview
Once again it’s that time when I put my head well and truly above the parapet and produce a bull sale preview and this week it’s the turn of the British Blues which head to Carlisle this weekend for a bumper sale.
The catalogue makes for interesting reading and there’s a wealth of some of the best Blue genetics on offer. Once again I’ve had to limit my selection, so there is bound to be something you like the look of that I’ve not picked up on, feel free to add your own selections below.
So, down to business and my first choice is the second bull in the catalogue Keasden Head David (lot 2). Sired by Gitan Du P’Tit Mayeur and out of Bringlee Tandy, he is a grandson of the great show and brood cow Bringlee Sandy and combined with Gitan could be an interesting senior bull.
Into the second class of seniors I’ve marked Springhill Designer (lot 8). This Empire D’Ochain son is out of Springhill Apple, a Blak Du Baty D’Eprave daughter and has strong figures, with a carcase yield index of +24, with a carcase weight EBV of +28.
A little later I’ve picked Dragon Blues Dennis (lot 14). He’s a son of Empire D’Ochain too and is out of Hazelwood Petal, a daughter of the good breeding bull Hazelwood Flashman. This one comes with a CYI of +16.
Moving on and I’m afraid Empire features as the sire of the next too in the form of Croftends Eddie (lot 19), this one is out of Croftends Belle, leading to an interesting Empire/Dafydd D’Ochain cross and has previously been junior male champion at the Great Yorkshire and has a CYI of +15.
Next choice for me is Swinden Moor Eee By Gum (lot 30). He’s a Gitan son out of Ridge Dean Wye, a daughter of the great Ridge Dean cow Navette so should be something worth looking at.
Following that is another bull I’ve picked for his female line, Nether Hall Empire (lot 42). This Bringlee Volkawagon son is out of 10,000gns heifer Boomer Whitney. A full brother to this one made 7000gns in 2009, although his figures aren’t the flashest at +4 for a CYI.
It’s a bit of a jump to my next choice in the form of Littlewood Edmonton (lot 73). This Empire son is out Ridge Dean Rona 2, a Visconti De St Fontaine daughter and has a strong show record behind him.
Three lots later I’ve picked Droit Esquire (lot 76), the first of a run of bulls from Richard Mowbray from a flush. This Dafydd son is out of Droit Beech a Tamhorn Sumo daughter and has a CYI of +20, easily in the top percentiles of the Blues.
One from the Bringlee herd is next, in the shape of Bringlee Emerson (lot 103). This Ideal De st Fontaine son is out of Bringlee Vandy, a Sandy daughter and dam of Bringlee Ecstasy which stands at Cogent. He has a CYI of +16.
Not far after that I’ve put a mark beside Lukeroyal Eldorado (lot 105). This Twyning Ash Vaughan son is out of Lukeroyal Bubbles, a Dafydd daughter and has a strong CYI of +20.
And then the next pick is Ridge Dean Endeavour (lot 111). He’s by Volkawagon and out of Ridge Dean Ursula, a Savant De Pierrecome daughter out of the noted cow Ridge Dean Jessie. His figures aren’t the strongest, but his female line is a proven one and worth a look.
After that I’ve chosen Rathkeeland Entrepreneur (lot 119), this Dafydd son is out of 12,000gns dam Wilodge Way to Go, a Cubitus Du Pre Rosine daughter and has a CYI of +11.
A Ballygrange Alex son is next in Tamhorn Elroy (lot 125). He’s out of Tamhorn Buttercup, a Tamhorn Sumo daughter and has a very strong CYI of +24 and an pedigree index of +20. Alex has bred well for many herds and combined with Sumo this should be a bull to watch.
Next up is Auchenlay Everest (lot 127), a Park Organiser son out of Auchenlay Blondie, a daughter of the great bull Wilodge Ulex. He has a CYI of +17, although being white he may not suit everyone.
It’s a big jump to my next pick which comes from the same home as the last, Auchenlay Eriskay (lot 151). This Mountjoy Utopia son is out of Herts Octavia, a Battlesden Guido daughter. Drawing the eye here are a CYI of +22 and pedigree index of +23 and a long lasting dam.
After that I’ve marked out Tamhorn Flanker (lot 160). This Sumo son is out of Tamhorn Winifred, a Baron Du Bois Bauloye daughter. He has a CYI of +19 and is maternal brother to 13,000gns Tamhorn Dynamite.
Second to last on my selection is Cromwell Fletcher (lot 171). This one is by Bringlee Carlos, sire of Cromwell Fergus sold privately recently for ÂŁ15,000, and is out of Tamhorn Vixen, a Sumo daughter. It’s a strong combination of breeding and should be in amongst it I’d say.
And the final choice for me is Black N Blue Ferrari (lot 179). Sired by Sumo he is out of Black N Blue Cleopatra, a Dafydd daughter out of show cow Black N Blue UK.com. He has a CYI of +16.
Without a doubt there will be something I’ve not mentioned that you’ve taken a shine to, so speak now…..
