Carlisle British Blue cull cows pass £2000 mark
Cull cow trade has once again hit new and incredible levels with a British Blue cross cow from Messrs Bough of Buckabank Farm making £2147.67 at Carlisle on Monday. At 243p/kg this is a new centre record for an cull cow.
The cow had earlier stood first in the cull cow class of the Border British Blue Club’s annual primestock show in which the champion ticket going to a stylish heifer consigned by J E and G Burrow of Flatt House Farm, Skipton which later sold for 237.5p/kg (£1296.7) to Bowland Foods on behalf of Pattons Quality Butchers, Millom.
The Reserve Championship was awarded to the first prize heavy heifer consigned by Messrs Watson of Cunningarth selling for 213.5p/kg (£1268.19) to Mr M Atkinson, Ripon.
