Carlisle Charolais bull preview

As the main autumn bull sales season approaches here is the first in the series of previews I’ll be doing ahead of the sales. With 61 bulls entered for Carlisle’s Charolais sale this weekend its a limited selection, but I’m sure there’ll be some quality lots in among them.

First pick for me is the fourth lot in the catalogue, Maerdy Donjuan from Esmor Evans. This is a Thrunton Voldemort son out of Maerdy Affluent, a Maerdy Ulm daughter. Charolais followers will know that Voldemort is the 55,000gns Burradon Talisman son. This one sells with a TSI of +19 and an SRI of +28.

Then I’ve picked Shraden Enigma (lot 10). This is a Shraden Osram son, himself a son of Maerdy Impeccable, and out of Shraden Satin, a Balthayock Matthew daughter. He was male champion at this year’s Shropshire Show and has a TSIO of +29 and an SRI of +31.

Following that I’ve picked Temeside Echo (lot 19), this is a Thrunton Bravado son out of Shamleys Bea, a Moyness Topnotch daughter. He was first in his class at the Three Counties Show this year and carries impressive figures with a TSI of +39 and an SRI of +43.

The very next lot is my next pick, being Gretnahouse Eventer (lot 20). He’s by Gretnahouse Archangel, an Oldstone Egbert son, and is out of Moyness Sagesse, a Moyness Polonium daughter. Born a twin he was male champion at Dumfries Show, while his dam has bred a heifer at 7000gns. He has a TSI of +30 and an SRI of +38.

Anyone looking for an easy calving sire could do worse than look at Marwood Escort (lot 30), this Allanfauld Vagabond son is out of Marwood Belingo, an Inverlochy Passport daughter. Passport is in the top 1% for calving ease and Escort comes with a calving ease figure of 10.7, an impressive figure for a Charolais. His TSI is +27 and his SRI is +22.

Moving through the catalogue the next pick is Bleaklow Equity (lot 41), this Dingle Hoffmeister son is out of Bleaklow Vavavoom, a Gretnahouse Noel daughter. He also has impressive figures, with a TSI of +38 and an SRI of +44.

The same day also sees the dispersal of the Piatroon herd for the Forster family and 53 collective females.

And that, is pretty much it for what I’ve marked out, its a fairly short list, but with only 61 entered it would be daft to make it much longer. As always feel free to add your own picks as appropriate, more previews to follow in the coming days…..
