Yesterday’s sale of prime cattle at Carlisle was led at £1295.14 by an 812kg Aberdeen-Angus cross steer from Messrs Blaylock, Hallburn, Longtown, which sold to Pioneer Foods, Carlisle.
The sale also hosted the North West Limousin Club’s show and sale of prime cattle which was led by the champion, a 590kg black steer from Messrs Dodds, West View, which sold for 204.5p/kg (£1206.55), A 511kg heifer from the same vendors stood reserve and sold for 186.5p/kg (£953.02). The champion sold to the show judge Gavin Little, Penrith, while the reserve sold to Messrs Riley Bros.
In the Easter show and sale of prime lambs the trade was topped at £122/head (312.8p/kg) for a Texel from Messrs Carlile, Fowgrass Farm, Penrith.
Suffolks from D Reid, Calf Park, Dumfries, sold to £118/head (295p/kg) these had stood second in the show.
