Carlisle Simmental spring show and sale tops 5,000gns

Two heifers from Jim and Patricia Goldie’s Newbiemain’s herd led prices at 5,000gns apiece at the Simmental Cattle Society’s spring show and sale at Carlisle on Friday.

First of these was Newbiemains Cocoa Pops, by Kilbride Farm Rainman and out of Newbiemains Trish.

Next at the same money was Newbiemains Dizzie (ET), sired by Blackford Albatross 09 and out of Newbiemains Vesper. Both sold to undisclosed buyers.

The day’s top price bull a 4,900gns was Caistor Domitius 12 (P), from B Lundy, Caistor, Lincoln. Sired by Caistor Bararabas 10 (PP) and out of several times champion of Lincolnshire county show, Caistor Empress 14th, he sold to WW Dunlop and Son, Hawick, Roxburghshire.

Second highest at 4,200gns was Gerrard Drummer 12, from RH Carter and Son, Wigton, Carlisle. He is sired by the Dovefields Gallant son Kilbride Farm Newry, and out of Gerrard Sally 16th. He went home to Alnwick, Northumberland with JA Ord and Sons.

Next at 4,000gns was first prize winner, Gerrard Dougie 12, also from RH Carter and Son. He is another of Kilbride Farm Newry’s offspring and is out of Gerrard Royale 10th. He was bought by ASM Farming, Hawick, Roxburghshire.

Selling at 3,600gns was Hemingford Donald 12, forward by James Griffin, Hemingford Abbots, Huntingdon. He carries a TSI of +83 and a SRI of +82. Sired by Starline Wizzkidd, he’s out of Skerrington Rhona 20th and was secrured by A and N Spillman and Son, Friesthorpe, Lincoln.

Not far behind at 3,000gns was reserve male champion and first prize winner, Wroxall Dominator 12 (P), from CH Evans and Son, Wroxall, Warwick. Sired by Royal Welsh Agricultural Show breed champion 2012 Wroxall Wallace, he is the first polled son of this bull to be sold. Out of Wroxall Attribute-Patiance, he was purchased by Burden Bros, Sheerness, Kent.


Female champion and reserve overall champion Midhope Diamond amde 3,700gns. She carries a TSI of +83 and a SRI of +91. Sired by Corskie Wealth and out of Midhope Appearance. Forward by WJ Hollingsworth, Midhopestones, Sheffield, she was purchased by P Jolliffe, Oakmore, Staffordshire.

Then at 3,100gns was Thursford Ernistine 8th from Boddignton Estates, Boddington. Sired by Kilbride Farm Van Gogh and out of Thursford Ernistine 6th, she sold to S White, Tarporley, Cheshire, with her bull calf Sterling Finn 14, by Mendick Butch 10, at foot.

‘Courance’ herd dispersal

On the same day, Courance Farms dispersed their herd of 30 females. Bidding peaked at 1,800gns for Orlando Chrissie 6th with her bull calf by Gretnahouse Supersonic at foot. Sired by Orlando Hugo and out of Orland Chrissie 1st, they went home with H and DM Forster, Hexham, Northumberland.

Second highest was Hazelden Brandysnap 1st who is sired by Curlieu Major and out of Hazelden Brandysnap. She sold to M Noblet, Preston, Lancs for 1,450gns.
