Charolais takes Omagh Fatstock show title

First time entrant Mary Hackett clinched top honours at Omagh Fatstock Show last week, with her 750kg Charolais steer taking the title under judge Sam Carmichael. This one went on to sell for £1700 (£2.26/kg).Reserve overall was Malcolm Fleming’s Charolais 660kg heifer whcih sold for the day’s top price of £2500 (£.378/kg). Winning the housewife’s choice award was Gerard Law, Kesh, with 640kg entry which sold for £1600 (2.50/kg), reserve for this was Brendan McKenna, Clogher.

Tyrone champion was Dorris Robb, Castlederg. While Ciarn Cullianan, Fintona was reserve. In the Baby Beef section the winner was E McManus, Enniskilen, with Eugene Maguire, Carrickmore, reserve. Winning the inaugural Eamon McCarney memorial cup for the champion beef cow was Sam Rankin with a 900kg cow which sold for £1440 (£1.60/kg) (Omagh Auction Mart).
