Cull show draws good trade at Skipton

The champion cow at Skipton Auction Mart’s Christmas prime stock show of cast cows and ewes was presented by Stephen Hollings, Peckett Well.

His Limousin-cross was purchased for £796 (109p/kg) by show judge Neil Laidlaw, of Dawn Foods, Carnaby.


The first prize dairy cast cow and reserve champion was a Holstein from John Whittaker, Laneshawbridge. This headed the show prices at £1005 (102p/kg) when acquired by Kepak, Wakefield. Cull cows averaged 88.25p/kg.


Bobby Booth, Rossendale, adjudicated in the cull ewes, awarding the championship to Continental crosses from John Carlisle, Cracoe. They topped the class prices at £100 per head when sold to Ali Shan, of Yorkshire Halal Meat Supplies,


Phillip Sedgwick, Steeton, presented the first prize and reserve champion pen of Mules, which also sold to Yorkshire Halal Meat Supplies at £82.50/head.
