Dairy demand pushes commercial bids to 3100gns

A cracking trade for commercial dairy cattle – that topped at 3100gns for a calved heifer sold with her heifer calf at foot – saw calved heifers level at £1856 when the Davis family dispersed their herd at Westcott Farm, Tiverton, Devon.

There were 33 bids of 2000gns and more as cattle were claimed by 32 different buyers on a day that saw a Dixie-Lee Aaron calved heifer giving 32.7kg top the bidding. An August calved heifer by Weeton Jackson realised 2500gns while the cow section was led by an Outside second calver giving 41.8kg selling at 2350gns. Fourth calvers reached 2050gns for an 11,468kg cow while a seventh calver made 1000gns.

In-calf heifers due in late November sold to 1700gns for a Huddlestone Spooky daughter.

Averages: Cows and heifers £1650; calved heifers £1856; in-calf heifers £1430 and heifer calves £513. (Greenslade Taylor Hunt).
