In 2010 Fullwood marks its 225th year in the dairy industry and to celebrate the company has a new robotic milking machine, the Merlin 225.
Made in Ellesmere, Shropshire, the Merlin has strengthened gates, streamlined edges and upgraded electronics. Teat spraying is now targeted using the same coordinates obtained from the lasers which direct the clusters. Because most controls are now housed in cabinets, the whole system’s a lot quieter, too, says the company.
Each robot can deal with 2000 litres a day (60 cows) and costs about £90,000.
