Inquiry into DfoB collapse not required – Hilary Benn

DEFRA secretary Hilary Benn has rejected a call for an official inquiry into the collapse of Dairy Farmers of Britain.

The issue was raised during a question and answer session in the House of Commons on Thursday (3 July) by Labour MP Lindsay Hoyle (Chorley).

“I represent hundreds of farmers, who were receiving 10p a litre, which is totally unacceptable and not sustainable, when the company went into receivership,” he said.

“We need the Secretary of State to call for a full inquiry into what has happened in Dairy Farmers of Britain.”

In response Hilary Benn said he did not think an inquiry was necessary.

“To be honest, I am not sure that an inquiry is required. Dairy Farmers of Britain had problems and in the end, despite the efforts of the members, it was not capable of being saved.”
