New training scheme improves working practice

The Milking Equipment Association together with the Institution of Agricultural Engineers and Reaseh
eath Agricultural College
are launching a new national qualification for the first time for Dairy Technicians.

The Milking Equipment Technician Accreditation Scheme will set standards and improve working practices, meet the needs of the farm, and associated animal health, milk quality, and farm assurance requirements, and provide the career platform to inspire young people to enter the industry as qualified dairy technicians.

As herd sizes increase such a qualification is important as insufficient labour availability means the widespread adoption of technically sophisticated automation will continue to grow. The future success of modern dairy farming enterprises in the UK will therefore, be dependent on key people who provide support to these businesses, and among those the role and support of the modern dairy technician will be critical.
