Decent store numbers but quality less at Wigton sale

Hopes Auction Co, Wigton held their weekly sale of Primestock when there was an entry of 186 Cattle including 36 Bulls, and 568 Prime Sheep including Ewes.

Although there was a decent show of cattle numbers, overall quality was less. Trade remained strong with the top end remaining at decent peaks.

Bulls continued to produce excellent returns with a top price of 218.5p and Black and White bulls to 180.5p.

Top price for Steers was 227.5p per kg for a Limousin which was shown by D Anderson, Crosby House Farm. Top price per head of £1591.53 was for a Blonde Steer shown by Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks.

The top price of 225.5p per kg was paid for a Limousin Heifer shown by L Skelton & Son, Low House Farm, Dearham and was purchased by G Riley & Sons, Dunnockshaw. A Limousin Heifer shown by Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks made the top price per head of £1509.01 and was purchased by R J Harrison, King Street, Wigton.

The top price of 218.5p per kg was paid for a British Blue Bull shown JG & M Little, Greenhill Farm. The top price per head for bulls was £1640.09 for a Blonde Bull shown by Messrs Mitchell, Grassknop Farm.

Over Thirty Months cattle sold to 222.5p per kg paid for a Charolais Heifer shown by D A Harrison, The Old Vicarage, Wigton
