Dungannon Limousins achieve 97% clearance

A top price of 8000gns along with a 97% clearance highlighted a strong trade at the British Limousin Cattle Society’s Spring bull and female Sale at Dungannon Monday.  

Securing the day’s top price of 8000gns, and a record for a bull sold in Northern Ireland at a BLCS Collective Sale, was Rathconville Esquire from Paul Brown, Loughgilly. Rathconville Esquire 8000gns.jpgEarlier in the day, Rathconville Esquire had been placed as intermediate and overall champion by judge Alan Clyde of the Clydesdale Herd, Antrim.  

The June 2009-born Rathconville Esquire is sired by 2009 Balmoral Show champion, 22,000gns Guards Boomer. Esquire is out of the dam Tithewer Ventura. And was bought for the Cuchulainn pedigree herd of Paul O’Brien, Lislea, Newry.

Second top price on the day went to the junior champion Lisbracken Eddie who was sold for 5600gns. Bred by Messrs W and J Lynch, Drumnahoe, and purchased by W Bond, Eglinton. This July 2009-born bull was sired by the 23,000gns Sarkley Sebastian, a Broadmeadows Cannon son, and is out of the homebred dam Lisbracken Virginia, a Jockey daughter.Lisbracken Eddie 5600gns.jpgAt 5500gns was another July born bull and reserve junior champion in the shape of Culnagechan Eliminator bred by Derek Hume, Randalstown. This one is an embryo calf combining the impressive bloodlines of the sire Heros along with the noted dam Carmorn Penny, a Pelletstown Ken daughter who has bred bulls to 14,000gns.  This bull was purchased by Lisgoole Abbey, Enniskillen, a 150 head commercial herd and well-known show calf producers.Culnagechan Eliminator 5500gns.jpgThe September 2009 born junior bull, Ballykelly Ernie, made 4200gns for breeder H P Hamill, Antrim, when going under the hammer to J Walls, Newry. Sired by Ulm, a Mas Du Clo son, he is out of the homebred dam, Ballykelly Bella, a Sympa daughter with Shire Milton bloodlines.

The female trade was headed by a top price of 2100gns paid for the female reserve champion Artanagh Freda, from William McIlroy, Dromore. A January 2010-born heifer, Freda is sired by Wilodge Tonka, and is out of the homebred dam Artanagh Coral, a Sympa daughter.  This young heifer was purchased by J P Canavan from Coalisland.

Second top price of 2000gns went to Rahoney Eleanor from Messrs H and D McFarland, Trillick. Purchaser was pedigree breeder J Ferguson, Comber. With a Beef Value of LM+26, this March 2009 heifer is sired by Drummin Beau.

Third price on the day went to the female champion Croobview Elsie, bred by Messrs J and D Jardine, Banbridge when snapped up by the Alan Clyde, Antrim for 1700gns. Sired by Ulm, she is out of the dam Fedneyhouse Shona.
