Edwern Holsteins meet impressive demand

The dispersal of Geoff, Jean and David Lloyd’s Edwern herd of Holsteins at Allensmore, Hereford, last week drew a substantial crowd with visitors from as far afield as Eire swelling the ranks ringside.

Top price was a 6000gns call for VG 87 ranked cow Croagh Susie Mist 20. This Talent daughter carrying a Durham Ross calf due next month had given 10,235kg in her second lactation and sold to Keving Thomas, buying for his Allstar herd, Whitland.

Second top call of 5600gns came for Edwern Lee Delcia. Rated VG88, this one is by Comestar Lee and sold to Henlan Farms for their Caeremlyn herd, Whitland.

And the same buyers made the next top bid of 5300gns when they bought Croagh Lady 10. This VG85 rated two year old heifer is by a Maughlin Storm grandson and was also carrying a Daurham Ross calf. Due in September she is a seventh generation VG/EX ranked animal and is the only member of the Lady family in the UK.

Then at 3700gns was Edwern Ford Shawny. A twin born heifer by Ford, she calved nine weeks prior to the sale and was sold as a choice with her sister. Taking this one home was Cilast Ltd, for their Cilast herd.

Her full sister Edwern Ford Shawny 2 was the first of two 3600gns bids and sold to Richard Bown for his Richaven herd, Hanley Castle. This one calved on the same day as her sister.

Also at this money was Enchanted Jupiter Penny which sold to L A, A E and K A Jones for their Kalana herd.

Included in the sale was a draft from John Jordan’s Ecstasy herd. His top call of 6000gns was given for Ecstasy BSP Outside Kittty an Ex91 rated daughter of Comestar Outside. This fifth generation EX cow was bought by P J Andrews, St Weonards, Herefordshire.
