Fierce Limousin trade at Red Ladies Derby

I normally try to get to a Red Ladies sale as it’s one of my highlights of the year, but the change in date and need to sort Christmas Farmers Weekly issues in time for you guys to get your weekly dose over the festive period means I’m bringing news of Limousin trade a day or two late!

Although I’m waiting on the full price list to come through from H&H, I can bring you some of the top priced females. And as usual I’ve got expensive tastes, as my ear marked lot numbers in the catalogue match up with the money makers!

And it appears my tastes are matched with Peter Smith of Smiths of Bloxham, as the top five priced females were knocked down to his Oxon-based herd.

The first bid from Peter Smith at 20,000gns set trade at a pretty impressive rate though, the first of which coming for S and G Potter’s embryo bred Westside Avril. By Imperial and out of Broadmeadows Jiji (daughter of the 26,000gns Broadmeadows Didi), she made an impact on the 2007 circuit being unbeaten in her class, female champion at the Yorkshire Show and part of the winning groups at Yorkshire and the Royal Show.

%28hutch%2917s-20%2C000gns%28small%29.jpgAt the same bid was Stephen Illingworth’s Hafodlas Llion daughter Glenbrock Bianca. Another summer circuit show winner, she goes back to Kype Interrogate and also joins Smiths of Bloxham.

Selling for 10,500gns, again to Smiths of Bloxham, was the reserve champion from Chris Jerman. With an impressive breeding value of +42 she is in the top 1% for 200-day, 400-day growth rates, muscle score and muscle depth, Glangwden Asilex is a powerhouse of a Haltcliffe Ullswater daughter.

Joining her at Smiths of Bloxham was Glangwden Ainsi, another Ullswater daughter this time with a breeding value of +38, for 7500gns.

Also at 7500gns was Steven Priestley’s Brontemoor Bobbydazzler, a seaview Upstart daughter out of a homebred cow. Having stood reserve champion at the Northern Limousin extravaganza in May and second at the Yorkshire show, she heads across the water to Co Londonderry to join R A Savage.

At 7000gns, Cullompton-based Mrs wheeler bought Peter Henshall’s Ringway Biddy, a Cloughhead Rocket daughter out of the homebred cow Tomboy.
