The judges have already been busy here at Harrogate for this year’s Great Yorkshire Show, with the first of the beef and sheep championships already decided.
Taking the Aberdeen-Angus title was N Ainsworth with March 2009-born heifer Rawburn Duchess Prairielane, a Rawburn Enigma daughter. Taking reserve was John Gilmour with Belhaven Ruisseau, a February 2008-born Vermillion Payweight sired heifer.In the Beef Shorthorns it was Charles, Sally and Harry Horrell who took top honours with their cow Pode Hole Madeline Zeta, a Chapelton Promoter daughter with calf at foot. Reserve was G L Riby with his bull Elliot Bodacious.In the Blondes it was a win for the Seels family with their cow Burghwallis Cadbury, a 2007-born Brownhill Unite daughter with calf at foot. Reserve was Nick Barrett with his heifer Everingham Duchess, a November 2008-born Arlequin daughter.
Winning the Galloway classes was J and S Ross with their heifer Beauty of Romebeoch, a 2007-born Xerox of Upper Buckna daughter.Limousin champion was Jamie Cooper’s bull Tomschoice Elgar, a Haltcliffe Vermount son, while reserve was the multi-award winning heifer Ironstone Dumandy from the Smiths of Bloxham team.
In the sheep classes the Swaledale championship went to J Bradley with his aged ewe.The North Country Cheviot honours went to Jimmy and Willie Thomson, Hownham Grange with their ewe, reserve was A A Grant with his aged tup.
