First Lleyn sale meets strong trade, with all sections up on the year

Lleyn ewes sold to a top of £208 a head while rams made 1,200gns twice at the society’s first sale of the season at Exeter last week (Thursday 28 August).

 

Females

 

Trade was strongest for shearling ewes, with Arfon Hughes taking the day’s top female price at £208 a head when selling to Highgate Farm Partnership, Cornwall.

 

Following this T and B Fort, Keighley, sold a pen for £178/head to MH Miller, Milton Abbas.

 

The aged ewe section met 100% clearance, with Cathy and David Evans, Modbury, topping this section when selling their two- year-olds for £124 a head to J Cane, Bishopsteignton.

 

The ewe lambs also saw a 100% clearance.  JM and GC Adams, Truro, topped the section when selling a pen of five for £130 a head to S Pierson, Kent.  The first prize pen from WJ and DJ Williams, Nefyn, closely followed at £128 a head. Buyer was SP Gubbin and Son, Cornwall.

 

Males

 

The ram section saw three rams sell for over 1,000gns.  First to hit the mark was G and A Fort, Keighley, with their fourth prize ram. Bred from a HM Dugdale and Son sire and out of a homebred ewe this shearling ram sold for 1,200gns to Sandley Farm Partnership, Gillingham.

Exeter 2014 - Top priced ram from G & A Fort 1200gns

Robert Bennett, Powys was next to realise 1,200gns when selling a Laga Farms sired shearling ram from a homebred ewe.  He was bought over the phone by H Goldie, Dumfrisshire.

Exeter 2014 - Top priced ram from R Bennett 1200gns

T and B Fort sold a J Goldie sired ram for 1,100gns to R Branton, Uplowman.  The champion ram from AW Davies, Nefyn, sold for 920gns to C Alderman, Cornwall

 

Averages: 81 ewes, £103 (+£33); 411 shearling ewes, £157.8 (+£42); 253 ewe lambs, £108 (+£24); and 47 rams, £599.4 (+£116).
