Full house at St Merryn’s carcase show

St Merryn’s carcase show in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales saw a total of 175 quality carcases on display. Taking the champion carcase was a Limousin steer from Aeron Hughes, Ceredigion that weighed 406.9kgs and graded E3 – considered by many to be the optimum commercial shape for an animal with just the right amount of fat cover.


Mr Hughes went on to be named St Merryn Welsh Producer of the Year. A consistent producer of quality carcases that grade within the St Merryn specification.  In reserve was H Brooks


In the Organic section it were T G and H M Williams and Son, Brecon, Powys taking the top spot, with medium steer champion going to Anthony Bros, Newton, Powys. Heavy steer went to T A Hughes and Son, Medium Heifer H B and L H Lear. Aylesbury Bucks.  H J Brooks and Son, also took top spot in heavy heifer class. Young bull went to F C and Son, Orcop, Hertfordshire.
