The Hereford Cattle Society Autumn Show & Saleon Saturday, with a record Bull Sale average of £3,003.00 saw the Champion, 20month old Romany 1 Fulcrum bred & exhibited by J.R.B. Wilson &Sons of Kelso, sell for 8000 gns.
Messrs Wilson, with a second bull 18 month oldRomany 1 Frisky, also by Baybridge 1 Atlas, took the Junior MaleChampionship which sold for 6250 gns.
“Frisky”, again in the top 5% of the Breed forGrowth and Milk, and top 2% for Retail Beef Yield, was purchased by theCheshire based A.I. Company, Cogent Breeding Limited.
The Reserve Male Championship went to the 2010’Hereford Bull of the Year’ 21 month old Leos Pride 1 Ellis (1018 kg), sired byRLOA Dynasty, bred & exhibited by D. & B. Ellis of Wigan,Lancashire.
Ellis”, another Recorded Bull with overallperformance figures in the top 10% of the Breed was sold for 7000 gns. tojoint bidders, P. Cobley, Kinglee Herefords, Stoney Stanton, Leicester and FordAbbey Farm Business, Ford Abbey Herefords, Leominster, Herefordshire.
Ford Abbey Farm Business sold their 25 month oldFord Abbey 1 Felippe , sired by Ford Abbey 1 Albert, for 5000 gns. toP.T. English, Churchlands Estate Herefords, Banbury, Oxford.
T.A. Spooner of Leek Staffordshire sold the youngestbull in the Sale,16 month old Dieulacresse Foremost for 5500 gns. to joint bidders, R.T. Davies& Co., Westwood Herefords, Worcester; A.R. Owen Church Preen Herefords,Church Stretton, Shropshire and S.J.L. Wright, Lawford Herefords, Bath, Avon.
Other leading prices included: Dendor 1 Filo, 17 months old, bred & exhibited by D.E., E.D. & A.L. Jones, Newtown, Powys, sold for2600 gns. to Glaspant Farm Ltd., NewcastleEmlyn, Ceredigion.
Auckvale Fulcrum (866 kg), 20 months old, bred &exhibited by W. & R. Kemp & Sons of Bishop Auckland, Co. Durham – “Fulcrum” theReserve Senior Male Champion was a “Superior Carcase Sire” with an EBV for EyeMuscle Area in the top 1% of the Breed and sold for 2000 gns. to PortmanBirtley Estate, Beaconsfield,Buckinghamshire to join their Commercial Suckler Herd.
Elms School Wizard , 20 months old, bred &exhibited by The Elms School, Ledbury, Herefordshire, sold for 2000 gns. to M.Lury, Oakleaf Herefords, Chard, Somerset.
Roseglen Baron (834 kg), 17 months old, bred &exhibited by F.G. Goodall, Llandovery, Dyfed sold for 2000 gns. to B. & L.Morgan, Brilon Herefords, Whitland, Carmarthen.
Following on from the successful Bull Sale, theFemale trade resulted in almost a total clearance of those on offer with theReserve Heifer Champion, 18 month old Hawkesbury 1 Viola, bred & exhibitedby D. & E. Colledge, Coventry, Warwickshire topping the Sale at 3500 gns.and purchased by newcomers to the Breed, G. Brimbell & Son, Cirencester, Gloucester.
The Female Champion, a 25 month old incalf heifer,Kings Hall Liz, bred & exhibited by J.R. Beynon, Gower, Swansea sold for 1700 gns. to P.W. Lucas,Rossvalley Herefords, Rochdale, Lancashire. Thiswas the first time for Mr. Beynon, a relative newcomer to the Breed, had exhibitedat the Society’s Shows & Sales.
Other leading prices included: Kilbrannan 1 Veronicaa 9 year old cow with her Spring born calf at foot, bred & exhibited by P. &A.M. Riley of Towcester, Northamptonselling for 2050 gns. to Miss B.I.C.Barnes, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire.
Weybrook 1 Plum a 2½ year old cow with her Springborn bull calf at foot, bred & exhibited by H.A. Hatt, Basingstoke,Hampshire sold for 2000 gns. to W. Harding, Yeovil, Somerset.
Lincoln 1 Ione Pansy, a 2½ year incalf heifer, bred& exhibited by Mrs. A.J. Lincoln of Benenden, Kent sold for1850 gns. to D. Stamper, Preston, Lancashire.
The Saleended with a small consignment from regular supporter of the Society Sales,E.R. & C.A. Kirby of Buxton, Derbyshire selling a 2½ year old incalfheifer, Tydesmoor 1 Elly, for 1850 gns., along with 6½ year old Tydesmoor 1Azalea with her Spring born heifer calf for 1300 gns. both purchased by C.H. Brown& Son of Albrighton, Wolverhampton.
Mr. Brown purchased the Tydesmoor consignment at theSociety’s Spring Show & Sale earlier in the year.
A further three 2½ year old incalf heifers,Tydesmoor 1 Edna, Endy and Erin sold for 1600 gns., 1650 gns. and 1650 gns.to Robert Gay Plant Hire, Pontypridd, Mid Glamorgan.
Breed Secretary, David Prothero, commenting afterthe Saleexpressed his delight with the results of the Bull Sale, the top price of 8,000gns. and average of £3,003.00, both recordsduring his 40 years with the Breed.
