Hoggs and lambs on fire at Skipton

Hoggs with lambs at foot met a firey trade at Skipton Auction Mart’s on Monday, with the sale attracting the biggest entry yet and some mammoth prices.

Trade was led at £280 (£140/life) for the first prize pen of five Continental cross hoggs with lambs, Texel cross ewes with Beltex sired lambs from John Stapleton, Skipton. These sold to D J Jackson, Northwhich, Cheshire.CCM Stapleton Continental Hoggs Lambs champs pic 1.jpgThe first prize pen of Mule hoggs and single lambs, again a five and five combination, was shown by Martin and Val Brown, Newton-le-Willows, Bedale. They made £270 and outfit (£135/life) when joining M and B Allen, Saltburn.

As in 2010, the geld gimmer hoggs were topped by a pen of 10 Mules from David Wood, Rivington, Chorley, who also acts as a part-time auctioneer at Skipton Auction Mart. They knocked down at £150/head to Ronnie Airey, Trawden.

Overall the geld hoggs averaged a healthy £127/head, with the Mule hoggs with singles averaging £42/outfit more than the 2010 sale.
