A well-supported sale on behalf of the South West Limousin Club at Holsworthy saw a solid and largely commercial trade with bulls averaging £3008.
The day’s top price of 4500gns went to Loosebeare Eclipse, a July 2009-born son of Haltcliffe Anzac and out of the homebred dam, Loosebeare Angela, when consigned by Messrs E W Quick, Crediton, Devon. Carrying a beef value of +35, which placed him squarely in the top 5% of performance-recorded Limousins, Loosebeare Eclipse had earlier stood as male and overall champion. Purchasers were Messrs G Phillips and Son, Usk.
Messrs Quick enjoyed a successful day with their next bull in line, the 22 month old Loosebeare Ernest, full of length, style and with a beef value of +35, selling for 3850gns. Sired by the prolific Rainbow Simon, who has sold 23 sons at Carlisle to average £8270, he is out of the granddam, Loosebeare Laystal, mother of the October 2002 Carlisle champion, Loosebeare Superman. Ernest went on to sell for to W J P Julian, Newquay.
Next best at 3800gns was Exmoor Executive for W H White, Combe Martin, Devon. Boding well for Mr White’s dispersal sale to be held at Bristol on 12 July, the rising two-year-old Exmoor Executive is an AI son of 42,000gns Cloughhead Umpire, and is out of the Sympa daughter, Exmoor Bride.
He sold with a Beef Value of +34 again into Cornwall, this time to G A Richards, Newquay, who also went on to buy the next highest price bull.
This one was consigned by Jack Neale, Launceston, who sold Nealford Export, a 24 month old bull sired by Raysonhall Utah and out Nealford Prettygirl, a Ronick Gains granddaughter, for 3000gns.
Female trade peaked at 2050gns for the female and reserve overall champion, Rosecroft Finest from David and Anne Wheeler, Cullompton. February 2010 born Finest is by 35,000gns Grahams Unbeatable, and is out of the prolific show winning dam, Brickhill Carol. A combination of visual appeal, bloodlines and performance convinced new owners Messrs D J and C E Nott of the Dartmoorview herd, Chulmleigh, Devon.
Averages; 13 bulls £3008.65, three cows and calves £1925, nine heifers £1271.67 (Kivells)
