Limousins lead the way in prime trade at Carlisle

Monday’s sale of primestock at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, saw quality sorts in demand with several new vendors present and a top price of £1237.27 (176.5p/kg) for a Limousin steer from TB Stamper and Son which was purchased by pioneer Foods.  


The leading price per kg, was 196.5p/kg for a heavy weight Limousin heifer from L Skelton and Son, purchased by G Riley. The top priced steer at 184.5p/kg (£1212.17) from Messrs Irving and again purchased by Pioneer Foods.


On the prime bulls front, a pure Limouisn from Ronnie Walker, Great Asby, topped trade at £1266 (148p/kg) selling to Cleveland meats.


A good offering of more than 2000 prime hoggs were also forward at Borderway with trade sharper on the week with a sale average of 197.69p/kg achieved despite an influx of heavy lambs in the market. Mule lambs were notably dearer on the week with many pens commanding between 185-190p/kg.


Top price was £115/head for a pen of 45kg Beltex lambs from Messrs Thornborrow which were purchased by R Skelton. Top price per kg was 269.7p/kg for a strong pen of Beltex from Messrs Fisher, purchased by A Dawson.
