British Friesian semen in demand

BRITISH FRIESIAN semen sales now account for 10% of dairy semen sales by Genus, the company”s Bill Foster told the British Friesian Breeders Club AGM. This is the highest level of sales since the 1980s.

He also reported that Genus is progeny testing six sires a year, mostly from club breeders, compared with none five years ago. These bulls are now coming through with proofs. All these are chosen from dams and grand-dams which have lived 8-9 lactations to maintain longevity, he said.
