Carlisle sale sees top bids for Castlecairn gimmer

Texel breeder Bruce Renwick took the top price of 7000gns at the Christmas Stars sale of in-lamb females at Carlisle.

His gimmer, a substitute entry from his Castlecairn consignment, is by the 22,000gns Watchknowe Jimmy’s Pride whose five highest priced ram lambs have grossed 112,000gns.

She is out of a dam by Cornerstone Isaac and in-lamb to Baltier Kracker – a 34,000gns son of the 122,000gns breed record-holder Tophill Joe.

The buyer was Edward Pugh, Bala, Gwynedd.

Castlecairn’s highest earnings included another gimmer by Jimmy’s Pride at 3800gns sold to Idris Morris, Caernarfon, and one by Ettrick Jackpot at 2200gns bought by a Mr Vaughan of Herefordshire.

Aberdeenshire breeder Margaret Lyon’s Milnbank flock reached 5000gns for a Tophill Joe-sired gimmer taken by Barry Baggott, Staffs.

This one is in-lamb to the 21,000gns Glenside Lieutenant.

Mr Baggott also gave 3200gns for another Joe gimmer, in-lamb to the performance-recorded 18,000gns ram Clougher Lincoln.

Messrs A C Lee & Co’s entries from their Fordafourie flock drew two 4500gns bids from Bruce Renwick – both for daughters of Tophill Joe.

One was in-lamb to the 22,000gns Crewburn Lorenzo who has also been used by the Haddo and Muiresk flocks this season.

The Cowal flock’s consignment sold to 3200gns for a gimmer by Knock Firefly.
