Dorfold herd dispersal sees 1950gns top price

The largest one-day dairy sale of the year put just over 500 head through the ring in Cheshire this week when Richard Roundell dispersed his Dorfold Holstein herd to a top price of 1950gns.

Eight hours of selling held a big crowd on the farm at Nantwich, with many buyers coming and going during the day as they targeted their bidding at specific sections of the catalogue.

And it was a cow carrying her second that topped the sale to join Andrew Richards’ herd in Carms.

Dorfold Titania 18th is by Moet Almira Grosvenor – a Cleitus Luke son – and out of a heavy milking daughter of Windjammer with three yields over 13,000 litres.

Titania 18th, in-calf to Dixie-Lee Aaron, was heading for a second lactation of over 12,000 litres.

At 1750gns, the in-calf cow Dorfold Indro Pat stays locally with regular buyers J R Williamson & Co, Nantwich. Due in May to Stormatic, she is by Riglio Juro Indro and out of a twice 13,000 litre-plus dam by Valiant Tab. She gave 9916 litres as a heifer.

And the same buyers matched the bid for another young cow by Juro Indro and AI’d in September to Shottle.

This one is from the herd’s good Ann family and is out of a cow by Fruto Star.

Mr Richards returned to the top end of the trade to pay 1700gns for Dorfold Shottle Honey.

From five generations of VG and Ex cows, she is out of a 12,500-litre Jabot dam.

An undisclosed buyer gave 1550gns for an in-milk heifer by Dellka Juror Gordon that goes back to some heavy milking from the Poelman herd’s Brenda family.

Averages: 375 milkers 849, 32 in-calf heifers 1067 and 99 heifer “A” lots 374 (Wright Manley).
