Show-topping Lim daughter is sold

The first Limousin daughter of the record breaking 55,000gns Grahams Samson to be sold at auction realised 6500gns at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, last weekend.

The January 2004-bred Newstart Virtue picked up several show titles this summer, taking second places in strong company at both the Royal and Royal Highland shows.

Virtue is out of Rachel’s Shula, herself a consistent winner at top level. Virtue has an EBV score of +41 and a visual assessment muscle score of 13.

This was the first production sale from David and Mary Cormack’s Newstart herd and there was no shortage of proven breeding females. Among the mature cows was Preselihill Rosalin, a powerful 2000-bred daughter of the Broadmeadows Cannon son Ardbrack Jackofdiamonds and out of a Newsham Garfield dam.

Rosalin, who also has a good show record, realised 4000gns.

This sale included entries from the Castlesowerby herd run by Alan Chapman, who achieved a best of 4600gns for the 2000-bred cow Ryedale Radiant.

Averages: Newstart – five cows and heifers 2037, five served and maiden heifers 2499 and one bull 3150. Castlesowerby – 13 cows and heifers 1453 and 10 served heifers 630. (Harrison & Hetherington)
