Toxovax shortage raises sheep abortion risk

Sheep farmers are being warned to speak to their vet about the alternatives to vaccination for toxoplasmosis abortion after Intervet Schering Plough announced supplies of Toxovax for use this autumm would be disrupted.

Intervet Schering Plough large animal vet Alasdair King said the company was working hard to resolve a supply issue. “But the delay in supplies reaching the UK does mean we will be unable to supply vets with their seasonal requirement this year.

“Sheep farmers concerned about the risk of toxoplasmosis should discuss their flock situation with their vet. There is an alternative prevention stratgey available which involves the medication of pregnant ewe feed under vet prescription. Sheep farmers should speak to their vet about the options available.”
