Feed additive joins fight against enzootic pneumonia
PIG PRODUCERS tackling enzootic pneumonia in finishing herds now have another feed additive at their disposal – Aivlosin from Schering Plough.
The product, derived from further fermentation of tylosin, is available as a premix for medicating pig feed, says Schering Plough’s Ross Kelly.
“Aivlosin generates accelerated levels of antibacterial activity at the site of infection. This activity treats the disease directly in the respiratory system and limits its establishment and progression. “This means disease challenge is limited on the unit.”
Aivlosin can only be included in pig feed with a prescription from a herd’s vet.
