Livestock showing sparks debate at BVA conference

Does livestock showing compromise animal welfare? It’s a debate that has been getting people talking at the British Veterinary Association’s Animal Welfare Discussion forum today.

One speaker said that beef cattle showing often includes “common use of steroids and water restricting before showing”. Vet David Martin also expressed concern with dairy cow welfare with teats sometimes glued in place and sealed with superglue to make udders look fuller.
