Ludlow Simmies peak at 3500gns

A good show of Simmental cattle at the society sale at Ludlow at the weekend, in conjunction with McCartneys Auctioneers, encouraged buyers to clear all of the 15 lots forward.

Top price of the day and reserve champion from the pre-sale show, judged by Rob Fitton, was Wroxall Seaman, which made 3500gns to Michael Mercer, Bowley Court Farms, Hope-Under-Dinmore, Leominster.

Sired by by the imported Vingegard Texas out of Wroxall Nice Moira, Seaman is bred and exhibited by the society president, Dan Evans, Abbey Farm, Wroxall, Warwick.

The champion from James and Belinda Kimbers, was Beanhill Star, a September 2005 son of Popes Laird and out of a Sterling Flint cow. He subsequently changed hands for 2900gns to S C Vaughan, Moss Hill, Monkland, Leominster.


Another two lots reached a similar price. Firstly Crackley Sheraton, from Messrs Booth & Bell, Crackley Farm, Crackley Lane, who sold to Messrs Johnson-Foster, The Cottage, Hanch Hall Farm, Hanch, Lichfield.

This was matched when the next lot in the ring Hockenhull Sheraton, from Hugo Arnold, Hockenhull Farms Ltd, Tarvin sold to Rob Fitton, Stoneclough Bolton.

Top female of the day was Sundial Jersey 3 from Mrs. M.J. Bricknell, Sundial Farm, Claydon, Banbury, Oxon. She sold for 1650gns to Major D. Davenport, Yazor Court Farm, Yazor, Hereford.
