Male champion leads Carlisle Galloway sale

The day’s male champion, an April 2009-born bull from Kilnstown Farms took the top call at last Friday’s sale of Galloways at Carlisle, selling for 3100gns. This son of Orinocho of Over Barskeoch is out of May 8 of Kilnstown, a Glenapp Dynamite daughter. He sold to G h J Medland, Petertavy, Devon.

Among the pedigree females the best price achieved was 1220gns, which was given for Kathleen 700128 of Arddoch from W G and H M Kyle. This one, bred by H Guthrie, is by General of Corrie and out of Kathleen 300026 of Ardoch. She was bought by G Bell and Co, Langholm, with a Blue Grey calf at foot.

Then a pair sold at 1200gns, the first being Nova 63 of Miefield, a Zeppeling of High Creoch-sired first calved heifer. Out of Nova 48 of Mielfield, she sold with a Blue Grey heifer calf at foot to A and A Hogg and Son, Langholm.

Second at this price was the day’s female champion, Dervorgilla 13 of High Creoch from G and K Gilligan. This one is by Septimus of Tweedshaw and out of Dervorgilla 4 of High Creoch, a Sovereign of High Creoch daughter. This maiden heifer was bought by T R and K M Wallace, Nineholes, Hexham.

Two then sold at the next best price of 1100gns too, the first being Demesne Virginia from K Laurie. This one bred by C G Noble is by Eclipse of High Creoch and sold with a Blue Grey steer calf at foot to A F Holes, Bewcastle, Carlisle. The other at this money was Roan Border Miggy from P Jackson. Sired by Junior of Romesbeoch, she sold having run with Barlaes Action Man and was taken by T and S Barker, Canonbie.

In the non-pedigree females the best call was a £1300 bid for a heifer with a Blue Grey calf at foot from W G and H M Kyle, Walton, Brampton, with one from R H and J R Little, Bewcastle, making £1200.

Top in the Belted Galloway females was a £1000 bid for Bigginvalee Beanley from J J and N Adams, when she and her purebred heifer calf sold to Messrs Gardner, Arnside, Carnforth.

And in the Whitebred Shorthorns on offer the lead price was a 1000gns bid for bull High Creoch Gardian from the Gilligans. He is by Blackburn Joe and out of High Crecoh Rose. Buyer of this one was Messrs Hunt, Ellerton Grange, Southwaite.
