Royal Show dairy champions

Much interest this afternoon has centred on the dairy lines where breed and interbreed titles were decided.

Once again it was the Holsteins which took the silverware, with Riverdane Holsteins’ cow Almond Stormatic Avis leading the charge. Second calver Avis is currently giving 62 litres a day at 4% butterfat and 3.3% protein, she gave a heifer yield of 11,050 litres.

Judge David Baynes described Avis as a powerfulcow who filled the eye from the minute she entered the makeshift showring erected due to the inclement weather conditions.

Next in Mr Baynes’ line up was the Ayrshire champion, Sandyford Clover 10 from the Tomlinson family. Fellow second calver Clover 10 is by K C Roses Chatter T Red.

Among the Dairy Shorthorns it was a celebration for Mr I R G Collins with their cow Churchroyd Lilian 2.

Across in the beef lines, one of the few breeds to venture onto the grass rings today were the Herefords. This section was won by Messrs Colledge with their heifer Hawksbury 1 Passion.

The Limousins meanwhile opted for the easier walking option of the tarmac and it was a popular decision which saw David and Mary Cormack lift the breed title with their homebred cow Newstart Upsydaisy.
