MRI breed record broken at Beeston

Last week’s sale of coloured dairy breeds at Beeston, Cheshire, saw more than 220 head of cattle offered to a packed ringside which included buyers from as far afield as Scotland and Cornwall.

Topping the trade and breaking the breed’s record at the same time was MRI cow Woodpecker Emma 115 from the Siddorn family’s herd which was dispersed on the day. By Romel and fresh calved with her fourth, Emma 115 sold to Barlow Bros, Croston, Preston. Four others sold at 2050gns and 2000gns, all of which were purchased by Stuart Wood, Norbury, Whitchurch.

Leading the way in the Pukeko Jersey dispersal was a brace of 1600gns calls. The first of which came for Greyleys Carolyn, a November calved heifer by SHF Centurion Sultan and bought by P L Boam, Bakewell. Second to trade at this level was Ribblevalley Wait Milly, a July calved heifer by Rapid Bat Just Wait and bought by C M Waigh, Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire. Close behind at 1520gns was Pukeko Blackie, a February calved second calver which sold to D M Riley, Crewe.

In the main sale Dairy Shorthorns topped at 1520gns for a crossbred heifer from G and B Bell, Tarporley, which sold to G A Bartlam, Bramshall, Uttoxeter.

And Mr Bartlam was also in action in the Brown Swiss when he paid 2550gns for a fresh calved second cross dauhgter of Top Acres PR Polaris that gave 7426 as a heifer.

Red Holsteins were topped by one from Jack and Barclay Taylor, Myddle, Shrewsbury, who are selling their herd as they calve. Their sale leader was heifer Burnbrae Kian Marjan Red, out of a twice 9000kg dam she sold to D M Riley for 2120gns.
