National Pedigree Ayshire Sale tops 8,000gns
The National Ayrshire Sale, held at Borderway, Carlisle, saw the first ever progeny from the UKs only EX97 cow take the top spot for 8,000gns.
Reserve champion heifer calf Sandyford Star Clover 3 ET comes from excellent pedigree breeding stock, with her dam, Sandyford Clover 12, classified EX90, and her grand dam, Sandyford Clover 10 EX97-5E LP100, winning more interbreed titles than any other cow in history. Clover 10 also scooped breed champion at this year’s Livestock Event.
The February-born heifer has a PLI of +£104 and is sired by Palmyra Tri-Start Burdette ET. Consigned by B Thomlinson, Loughborough, Leicestershire, she sold to the days highest bidder, A Rimmer, Holmeswood, Ormskirk.
The top priced bull came from the same herd, being knocked down at 5,000gns.  Mr Thomlinson’s June-2013 born Sandyford Clever Dick, is a son of Sandyford Clover 10 and was sired again by Palmyra Tri-Start Burdette ET. With a PLI of +£77, he went home across the water with A Irwin, Omagh, Northern Ireland.
C and L Window’s bull, Hunnington Flash, from Halesowen, Worcestershire, sold in a two way split for 3,700gns. Sired by Castern Tornado and out of Hunnington Fragy 12 EX95-3E, buyers were M Armstrong, Maryport, Cumbria and J McGarva, Annan, Dumfriesshire.
Sticking with the bulls, the next lot sold for 2,800gns. Marleycote Buster was consigned by GG Baynes and Son, Hexham, Northumberland. Sired by Marleycote Winton Robbie ET, he is out of Marleycote Bronwyn 2 EX 94-5E LP60. Buyer was FJ and M Mattinson and Sons, Wigton, Cumbria.
The day’s champion was in-milk heifer, Cuthill Towers Willies Easylady, who sold for 2,600gns. Consigned by A and S Lawrie, Milnathort, Kinross, she calved in August and has a PLI of +£175. Sired by Cuthill Towers Regal Willie and out of Cuthill Towers Easy Lady 2 VG86, she went home with Alan Norbury, Knutsford, Cheshire.
Close behind, at 2,500gns were two lots. The first, Mair’s Sir Alex was a bull from C Mair, Dumfries, Dumfriesshire. Sired by Nexus Dreamer and out of Mair’s Chatter Susan VG88, he was sold to G Lawrie, Prestwick, Ayrshire.
The second bull at the same money, Willhome Rambler has a PLI of +£243. Sired by De La Plaine Prime and out of Pam Ayrs Right On Rosie EX94-5E, he went home with G and G Templeton, Cumnock, Ayrshire.
