Newabbey dispersal tops 18,000gns

Prices topped at 18,000gns and averaged £2,296 a head at the Newabbey dispersal sale, held at Borderway, Carlisle on Wednesday (30 July).

Since establishing their Newabbey herd 14 years ago, Andrew and Alison Bunting had invested in the very best animals available in the UK.

It was one of their stars from the show ring that stole the show. Sterndale Sterling Jodie Red had been unbeaten since they purchased her in 2012 as a young heifer, winning championships at UK Dairy Expo and the Royal Highland Show. By Ardross Sterling and out of Sterndale Talent Jodie Red, she sold for 18,000gns to a Scottish and Welsh syndicate from the Logan, Meikle Firth and Wiltor Holstein herds.

Selling for 6,000gns was maiden heifer Knowlesmere Brax Missy, sired by Regancrest S Braxton, out of Morsan Miss Universe and granddaughter of Eastside Lewisdale Gold Missy EX95. Gold Missy was Grand Champion at both World Dairy Expo and the Royal Winter Fair in 2011 and this was her first progeny to sell. She was purchased by the Sloan family, Darnlaw Farm, Ayrshire.

Next at 5,800gns was Sahara Sanchez Ambrosia, who went home with the Hollins family, Bate Farm, Staffordshire.  She scored VG88 as a two year old and was sold in-calf with her second to Golden Dreams (sexed).

Two progeny from Tegan Bolton Lila Z also sold well. At 5,600gns was her daughter Newabbey Atwood Lila Z, who went to D. Buchanan, County Down. Freshly calved with her second was Newabbey Goldwyn Lila Z 2, who went home with Mr Tucker, Swansea for 5,000gns and her Braxton sired daughter, Newabbey Braxton G Lila Z sold for 4,500gns to the Lawrie brothers, Lanark.

Taking two in-calf heifers to his Priestland herd at 5,000gns a piece was Mr McLean. Newabbey Lauthority Beauty and Newabbey Windhammer Jo Flo went across the water to County Antrim.

Also at the same money was milking heifer Newabbey Damion Rose, who sold to the Robson family, Preston.
