Spirited bidding at Sedgemoor Auction Centre’s monthly dairy sale resulted in a sale high of 3,100gns twice for pedigree in-calf heifers.
First to command the top price was a Shottle daughter from Mary and Tegwyn Davies of the Caeremlyn herd, Carmarthenshire. Caeremlyn Shottle Mitzie, was bred from 10 generations of VG and Ex dams and can be traced back through the Leachfield herd.
Second at this money was the red Destry daughter Marcroft Destry Lulu who was the last offering from the Marcroft herd dispersal of Eric Puddy , Somerset. In- calf to a red Holstein and bred from six generations of VG and Ex dam this one sold to a volume buyer from Cornwall.
In the fresh milk section quality sold to a premium, while the smaller heifers giving less milk were harder to sell. Shottle daughters topped this section for a heifer at 2,250gns from Stuart and Colin Roger’s Longmoor herd, she was giving 32kgs daily.
At 2,000gns was Rookhaye Million Agnes from Rookhaye Estate. The same Vendor sold two further heifers with calves at foot to realise in excess of 2,000gns for both outfits.
Brian and Randolph Miller’s cows Moorshard Secret Shower and Moorshard Berryhill Meg topped the freshly calved cows at 1,950gns and 1,900gns.
The sale also featured a consignment of 89 calved and in-calf heifers from the Caeremlyn herd of Mary and Tegwyn Davies, owners of the day’s top price. Breeding was carefully followed demonstrated by the other in- calf heifers. Caeremlyn Alexander Rolls 2nd achieved 2,650gns and Caeremlyn Toy Tracy and Million Tracy made 2,300gns and 2,200gns respectively. Selling at 2,500gns was the freshly calved Caeremlyn Million Rhapsody bred from 10 generation of straight excellent and calved just a week.
Bulls sold to 1,500gns for Moorshard Auto Strada from RK and SG Miller and Sons. Yearlings sold to 650gns for N Hector and pedigree calves to 440gns for B Rose & Sons
