Egg packer makes new cancer donation

Cumbrian producer-packer The Lakes Free Range Egg Co has presented a cheque to Cancer Research UK for £3,200, its latest donation since launching the Laid With Love brand in 2011.
Laid With Love free-range eggs were developed in partnership with Booths supermarket as part of their commitment to local suppliers. The initiative pledges to donate 2p/doz to cancer research from all eggs sold.
Hens on the company’s own farm and on local contract farms are fed on an enriched diet that includes Lutein (a Marigold extract), which is a carotenoid and a natural anti-oxidant. It also makes the yolks extra yellow.
“When you crack a Laid With Love egg and compare its yolk to a standard egg, it is easy to see which has the extra rich colour,” said David Brass from the Lakes Free Range Egg Co. “We believed customers would convert quite easily once they have tried them and the results from Booths sales seem to indicate they do.”
Abby Talbot, Booths buyer, said; “Laid With Love is a fantastic locally sourced product, ethically produced to the highest welfare and environmental standards. Cancer Research UK is a cause close to my heart and I’m pleased that sales have continued to do well.”
