Lauren Jones is the winner of the Eggs Factor cooking competition

Ten year old Lauren Jones from Flintshire is this year’s winner of the Eggs Factor cooking competition.

She beat off nine other finalists at the grand final held yesterday (7 July) at the renowned cookery school L’atelierdes Chefs in central London. This year’s competition invited kids aged 7-11 year to create an egg-based recipe for their favourite celebrity or character and Miss Jones’ winning recipe was Eggrap, made for Snoop Dogg the rapper.

She impressed a panel of judges led by best-selling children’s cookbook author Annabel Karmel and X-Factor finalists Same Difference, to win a culinary weekend in London and she will have her recipe published in one of Mrs Karmel’s forthcoming cookbooks. Miss Jones will also become an honorary member of the Craft Guild of Chefs.

Chairman of the British Egg Industry Council Andrew Parker, who also chaired the Eggs Factor judging, said: “The judges were very impressed with the quality of the dishes today. It’s great to see children using their imagination to come up with new ways of looking with eggs.”

Both Same Difference and Mrs Karmel were impressed by the high standard of entries, with Mrs Karmel remarking: “The overall standard of entries was excellent, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It’s fantastic to see children with such skill and creativity in the kitchen.”

Other dishes included Tasmanian Deviled Eggs for the cartoon character Tasmanian Devil and a Gromelette for Wallace from Wallace and Gromit.
