Retailer row breaks out over Christmas turkey pricing

A supermarket price war has broken out in the run-up to Christmas, with a row over the pricing of Bernard Matthews turkeys.

Tesco has been accused of misleading consumers by its rivals with a bogus half price turkey offer, according to an article in the Daily Mail.

The retailer is selling Bernard Matthews birds in the run-up to Christmas at £20 – which it says is half price. But the chain’s rivals point out that this claim is based only on the fact it sold the frozen turkeys for a short period in early November at £40.

They add that the birds should have retailed at £20 all along – the price that other retailers are charging themselves.
